I got lost in a dream
I got lost in a dream and came out
wrapped in a metaphor of thorns
and all I could hear was the voice of the Universe
sayin, “You are here to be born.”
And everywhere I look, I see evidence of waking up
even in this land of the dead
voices speaking soflty of things long forgotten
and for once they’re not all just in my head
Did you know that there’s an ancient city
buried just behind the Wal-Mart?
In Rockwall, Texas, for 12,000 years
you and your Bible think you’re so smart
Well everytime I look just a bit below the surface
I get a little closer to the Light
From the stars we came, building temples to remind us
we are here to fight the good fight
There’s a war in heaven
and a war in my heart
for the truth to be set free
Release my mind and body from this night
let the politicians have their reality….
Spinning words around our necks like nooses singing
Terrorist, traitor, thief
Holding secret courts and courting secret prisons
we are America, Land of Disbelief
But I hear talk of a new world rising
which side will control it I don’t know
All I can do is find my path up the mountain
in this avalanche of circumstantial snow
The rain’s comin’ down so hard outside
like the four horses galloping fast
oil prices rising with calculated calm
how quickly we forget the past
In one hundred years will your steeples be as tall
as the tallest trees I can plant?
Will you walk through the forests that your fears left behind
In the underwater California sand?
In alignment of the centerfold
of the book of the night sky
I reached out my arms and took ahold
of the pages inside…
And I got lost in a dream and came out
wrapped in a metaphor of thorns
and all I could hear was the voice of the Universe
sayin, “You are here to be born.”
